Kupffer cells are macrophages residing on the surface of hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cells. They constitute 15% of the liver cell population and 50% of resident macrophages in the body. Kupffer cells are involved in the metabolism of various compounds, immunological responses and inflammatory reactions.
