Medial Ganglionic Eminence

NT.MGE
The medial ganglionic eminence (MGE) is a progenitor domain within the ventral telencephalon that, together with the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), gives rise to the basal ganglia (striatum and globus pallidus). Via tangential migration, these structures are also the source of the majority of interneurons in the neocortex, hippocampus and olfactory bulb. In addition, oligodendrocytes arise from these regions and migrate into the developing cortex.
