Lumbar Hypaxial Myotome

Smt.LHpMtm
The hypaxial myotome is located ventral to the notochord and is a source of cells that form the trunk and limb muscles.

The original segmental structure of trunk muscles disappears during late embryonic development, with the exception of the deep layers of the intrinsic back muscles and the thoracic muscles. Superficial portions of the myotomes fuse to form long continuous muscles.
