Hydrogels with cardiomyocytes for myocardial repair

The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using the PEGylated-fibrinogen matrix to locally deliver cells in an animal ischemic heart model. The PEGylated fibrinogen scaffolds were used as carriers of primary neonatal cardiomyocytes or human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Liquid cardiomyocyte-embedded gels were injected into infarcted rat hearts, and were photopolymerized in-vivo. This approach resulted in a favorable effect on cardiac remodeling.
