Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (Tel-Aviv University)

Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells are isolated from the iliac crest of healthy donors.

Bone -marrow aspirates were diluted and subjected to Ficoll-Hypaque separation to isolate the mononuclear cell layer. These cells were then washed, resuspended in growth medium and plated in tissue-culture flasks. Growth medium consists of: DMEM supplemented with fetal calf serum (15%, FCS), horse serum (5%), non-essential amino acids (X1), beta-mercaptoethanol (0.001%), glutamine (2 mM), streptomycin (100 ug/ml), penicillin (100 U/ml), nystatin (12.5 U/ml), and human epidermal growth factor (10 ng/ml, EGF).
