Type9 On Cone Bipolar Cells (INL)

Bipolar cells are interneurons located in the inner nuclear layer (INL) of the retina, mainly in the center of the INL. They act, directly or indirectly (via amacrine cells), by transmitting signals from the photoreceptors to the ganglion cells. The On cone bipolar cells show depolarizing light responses. There are 5 types (5-9) of On cone bipolar cells, which differ in their dendritic branching pattern and the shape and stratification level of their axon terminals in the inner plexiform layer (IPL). In general, the axons of the On cone bipolar cells terminate in the inner IPL.
