Angioblasts at the intraembryonic capillary plexus develop during vasculogenesis, slightly after extraembryonic angioblasts, and in the mouse are first detected in the endocardium. The specification of angioblasts into arterial or venous fate occurs before the formation of distinct arteries and veins.
