Acinar progenitor cells are already committed to the acinar lineage and express acinar genes such as Mist1. These cells further mature to become mature acinar cells.


Acinar differentiation in the dorsal bud is indirectly affected by Isl1 signaling in the pancreatic mesenchyme, in a non-cell autonomous effect.
