Heart Conduction System

Heart Conduction System

The heart conduction system.

The sinoatrial node (SAN), located within the wall of the right atrium (RA), typically generates electrical impulses which cause the right and left atria to contract simultaneously and is carried by specialized conducting tissue to the atrioventricular node (AVN). In the AVN, located between the atria and ventricles, the electrical impulses are transmitted to the conducting Bundle of HIS that branches into conductive channels, termed the right and left bundle branch, which then supply impulses to the right and left ventricles.

Abbreviations: LA, left atria; RV, right ventricle; LV, left ventricle.
